Literature Resources

Researching, understanding  and writing about literature can be easier if you are familiar with the available resources.  The goal of this guide is to expose you to some of the resources available to you through the SJSU King Library.  Our primary goal in compiling sources is to meet the needs of first year students and beginning researchers.  Be sure to browse through the English and Comparative Literature Lib Guide to find many other wonderful sources.  The scope of this site includes:

Resources that expose you to literature Audio Drama has streaming versions of many plays so you can hear how they were performed.  Underground and Independent Comics has links to comics based on the lives or stories of famous authors. 

Resources that help you understand literature - the Oxford English Dictionary Online - is a historical dictionary that provides you with the meaning, history, pronunciation and quotations so you can experience the words in historical context.  In the First Person allows you to study the personal lives letters and journals of authors and how that may have affected their work.  ProQuest Historical Newspapers can help you find reviews, and other articles related to literary works.

Resources that help you write about literature including the many resources in the Literature Resource Center and MLA Bibliography.  Properly using the MLA Handbook will allow you to make certain that your sources are properly acknowledged.  Citation managers like RefWorks help you organize the resources you have used.
